COSMOFON backgrounder

COSMOFON Mobile Telecommunications Services AD Skopje was established in November 2001 by Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE S.A.) - one of the leading groups of companies in Greece which ranks among the largest telecommunications organizations in Europe.

The first public call via Cosmofon network was made on May 16 in the year 2003, and very soon, on June 12, the same year, COSMOFON launched its commercial operation in the country.

In the year 2004, the SEE Regional Roundtable for Investment Promotion (RRT) and OECD awarded Cosmofon with the regional award for the largest Greenfield investment.

In April, 2005, COSMOTE signed a Memorandum of understanding with OTE regarding the acquisition of the 100 % shares of COSMOFON AD Skopje.
COSMOFON is part of the COSMOTE Group and is the fastest growing member in the Group with significant achievements both in terms of operational as well as in financial performance.

Up to now, by implementing its aggressive roll out plan, COSMOFON has installed an extensive network of base stations and today covers 99 % of the population and 97.05% of the territory.

Currently the company offers to its customers roaming services with 184 partners in 91 countries on all 6 continents. The current number of pre-paid CAMEL roaming is 41 and is increasing constantly.

Cosmofon’s Commercial Network comprises of COSMOFON  own stores and Germanos’ stores, as well as stores of Cosmofon master dealers:  Lotarija na Makedonija, Gemak, Impuls and sub dealers stores

COSMOFON customer base to date amounts to almost 500 000 customers.
