Macedonian IT Market Declines for Second Consecutive Year in 2011 as Government and Telecom Cut IT Spending, Says IDC 

Skopje/Zagreb, June 14, 2012 – Following a decline in 2010, the Macedonian IT market again fell in 2011, down 0.1% year on year in U.S. dollar terms to a value of $178.98 million. Measured in local currency, the market contracted 4.9% year on year. However, IDC expects the country's IT market to grow 1.5% year on year in 2012 and to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8% to reach approximately $226 million in 2016. Macedonian per capita IT spending stood at $87 in 2011, or 9.1% of the EU average and well below the Adriatic regional average of $141.

Macedonian IT Market Slumps in 2010, with a Rebound Expected in 2011

The Macedonian IT market declined 12.9% year on year in U.S. dollar terms in 2010, totaling $143.20 million. According to market research company IDC, the country's economy has begun to recover from the economic crisis, with GDP, exports, and FDI all growing in 2010. The trend is expected to continue in 2011, putting the local IT market back on a growth curve.

Macedonian IT Market Declined Modestly in 2008 from an Exceptionally High 2007

Zagreb, Skopje, 24 July 2009 – The IT market in Macedonia declined 2.9% year on year in U.S. dollar terms to $159.05 million in 2008. Measured in local currency, the market dropped 10.1%, according to an annual study from IT market research company IDC. As expected, IT spending in Macedonia decreased last year from an exceptionally high base year in 2007, when the market skyrocketed 63.8% year on year.

Macedonia's IT Market Grows Fastest of Adriatic Countries, Fueled by Investments in Government, Finance, and Telecom Sectors, in 2008

Macedonia's IT market skyrocketed 63.8% year on year in 2007, to almost $164 million. In local currency, year-on-year growth was 53.7%. According to a study from market research company IDC, the record growth was due mainly to massive IT investments by government and telecommunications, continued spending in the finance sector, and falling equipment prices, together with decreased VAT for computer-related purchases.

Macedonian IT market worth $121 million in 2007

Last year, the Macedonian IT service providers exported approximately 1/3 of the services abroad, and the market for IT services reached about $25 million.
